Gemini for Home now plugs into AT&T’s smart security system

An image of AT&T’s Connected Life security system

AT&T's smart home security system now integrates with Gemini for Home. The company says its Connected Life system is the "first" home security product to integrate with Google Home Premium, enabling a bunch of Gemini-powered features that can summarize home events, search your video history, and more.

With the update, Gemini for Home can provide detailed descriptions about events captured by your security cameras, such as who delivered a package and how many items they dropped off. You can also search recorded video footage using natural language questions, like "What dug up the yard last night?" or "Who let the dogs out?", as well as revie …

Anker’s new window-mounted camera monitors the outside of your home from within it

The Anker Eufy Window Camera E10 stuck to the inside of a home’s window.

Anker announced a new indoor security camera that's designed to watch your yard, driveway, or front porch through a window, instead of monitoring what's inside your home. The new Anker Eufy Window Camera E10 takes a similar approach to the Wyze Window Cam that launched nearly a year ago. It installs right against a window using an including mounting sticker to reduce glare and reflections, but the camera doesn't require any weatherproofing since it's not enduring the elements outdoors.

The Eufy Window Camera E10 is available now for $79.99 through Anker's online store and Amazon, making it more than twice as expensive as the $34.98 Wyze Win …

Apple’s β€˜Ultra’ smart home robot might have to wait until 2028

An image of the Apple logo on a colorful background.

Apple has reportedly delayed the launch of its rumored smart home robot until next year at the earliest or possibly even 2028, according to The Information. It says the robot's hardware "has been finished for around two years," but that the software isn't ready. The device's software team has reportedly pushed to delay the launch and "attempted to strip back some proposed features and focus the product on a few capabilities related to FaceTime and automating home tasks, like switching on a light."

According to The Information, the device is codenamed J595, but former Apple employees predict it will be called the "HomeView Ultra," taking aft …

Apple’s HomeView could add security camera features

Reddit user pdfu found hints hidden in the HomeView 27.2 code that Apple could be adding security camera features to its smart home hub. The strings describe a security camera mode with motion detection, live streaming, and recording options, as well as privacy functions. According to pdfu, there is a setup page that even explicitly reads: "Your HomeView can be used as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video."

Supposedly, the video feeds will only be visible to members of the home, and will both show an indicator light and play a sound when either someone is watching the camera feed or when it starts to record. Home members will also ge …

HomePod Mini 2 first look: Three things I love and one disappointment

Apple’s second-generation HomePod Mini is a nice upgrade, but the biggest improvement hasn’t arrived yet. | Photo: Jennifer Pattison Tuohy / The Verge

When I first heard about the new $149 HomePod Mini 2 at Apple's Welcome Home event last month, I was disappointed. It's been six years since Apple launched its entry-level smart speaker, and all it got in the second gen was a chip bump, some color glowy stuff, and better AirPlay? For $50 more than the original, which launched at $99, Apple didn't even upgrade the sound system. It felt like the company phoned this one in.

Now that I've got my hands on a couple and set them up in my home office, I'm more enthused. The Mini 2 is so much faster than the first-gen Mini, playing music in a few seconds and responding to smart home commands just as …

The HomeView and Echo Show 16 could be the family computers I’ve been asking for

The Amazon Echo Show 16 and Apple HomeView are shown against an orange background.

Three years ago, I wrote an obituary for the smart display. The category - smart speakers with touchscreens attached - was stuck with a few underpowered gadgets from Google and Amazon that tried to do too much and did too little well. Back then, I also laid out what they needed to do to improve. This month, Apple and Amazon launched new smart displays that check nearly every box on that list.

Based on my brief hands-on time with Apple's first smart display, the $299 HomeView, and Amazon's $499.99 Echo Show 16, a ground-up rebuild of its smart display line, these could finally turn the smart display into what it should have been all along: …

Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Holdings is acquiring ADT for $7.6 billion

A blue β€œSecured by ADT” sign.

The Joshua Kushner-led Thrive Holdings is acquiring ADT in an all-cash deal valued at $7.6 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027 and will take ADT private, as reported earlier by Bloomberg.

Joshua Kushner is the brother of President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Thrive Holdings was founded last year, serving as an offshoot of Joshua Kushner's venture capital firm Thrive Capital Management. TechCrunch likens Thrive Holdings to a "private equity firm for AI," as it purchases "traditional" businesses, like accounting and IT services, and applies AI to their workflows.

Though ADT operates a standalone …
