Apple is β€˜not able to predict’ when it’ll have enough iPhone Duos to go around

The front of an iPhone Duo, partially folded.

Apple CEO John Ternus doesn't have a timeline for when iPhone Duo supply constraints could lift. During an interview with Reuters, Ternus said the company is "working hard to get it to as many customers as quickly as possible, but at this point, we're not able to predict when supply and demand will be in balance."

Apple launched its first foldable last month for $1,999, featuring a 5.4 outer display and 7.6-inch inner screen. Preorders for the iPhone Duo quickly sold out, with some shipments expected to arrive in 2027. Apple also made a limited number of iPhone Duo models available in-store at launch.

In his interview with Reuters, Ternu …

Vivo’s first Pro Max phone proves its Ultra is still in a league of its own

When I declared this spring that Vivo's X300 Ultra had the best cameras in any phone, two things made it stand out in my mind: its excellent main camera with a narrow 35mm focal length and what remains the most capable ultrawide in any phone worldwide.

You won't find either in the new X500 Pro Max. It has an impressive camera system with world-leading dynamic range and the same great telephoto lens found in the Ultra. But it's lost a little something of what made its predecessor quite so special.

Here’s why the iPhone Duo’s hinge could be cracking the screen

Within hours of the iPhone Duo launch last Friday, people reported that the inner screen on some brand new foldable phones was already broken. The issue was similar across many photos shared on social media: some kind of issue or crack would appear in the middle of the screen above the hinge, with lines appearing on the right side of the display. On Monday, Apple acknowledged an "issue" and said it's replacing damaged units, without going into much detail about how many broken phones have been reported so far.

So what's actually going on?

Shahram Mokhtari, the lead teardown technician at iFixit, has actually taken apart the iPhone Duo and …

iPhone Duo now supports Apple Pencil with iOS 27.2

A photo of the iPhone Duo closed

Apple has just released iOS 27.2, bringing Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo. The software update also includes an "Edge Light" feature for the iPhone Duo that's intended to illuminate your face during video calls.

Apple previously said the iPhone Duo would add support for the Apple Pencil "later this year." The company's first foldable comes with revamped iOS 27 controls designed to work across the device's 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer screen. Many major apps, like Netflix, Prime Video, and Microsoft Outlook, already support the Duo's extra screen real estate, but some still need some work.

The iOS 27.2 update also allow …

Apple acknowledges iPhone Duo display β€˜issue’ after reports of cracked screens

Following reports of iPhone Duos with cracked and broken inside screens, often showing a bright line running from the center to the right side, Apple says in a statement to Bloomberg and 9to5Mac that it's aware of "an issue impacting the inner display" on a "small number of iPhone Duo units." If your iPhone Duo is affected, Apple says to contact AppleCare for a replacement.

Here is the full statement, which Apple's Alex Kirschner shared with The Verge:

The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its uniq …

The first broken iPhone Duos are here

An iPhone Duo is shown opened, with bright lines along the hinge and the right side of the display.

The iPhone Duo officially goes on sale today, but a few units already have broken screens. According to posts on Reddit about the affected units, the issue appears to be happening at a similar spot on all of them: Some kind of problem shows up on the inner screen along the hinge and a strange bright line (or lines) across the right side of the display.

Here's how one user in Australia described what happened to their phone:

Had my iPhone Duo for about six hours and had probably opened it fewer than 20 times.

I was showing it to a friend, and as I opened it, I felt something around the internal hinge, underneath the screen.

As I cont …

Delta can turn the iPhone Duo into your favorite folding handheld

New features included in version 2.0 of the delta gaming emulator app.
The Duo has a Nintendo DS-like shape anyway, so Delta 2.0 is running with it. | Image: Riley Testut

The Delta gaming emulator has been upgraded with a plethora of new goodies and support updates, which includes optimizing it for Apple's iPhone Duo. Delta 2.0 also introduces Sega Genesis games, animated controller skins, custom PokΓ©mon DLC experiences, and a new UI that was built around supporting Liquid Glass.

Adding support for the iPhone Duo is an obvious standout here - if you looked at Apple's flagship foldable and wondered how well it could emulate Nintendo DS games, this update was made with you in mind. Delta app creator Riley Testut told The Verge that Delta 2.0 optimizes controller skins for "every pose in both portrait and lands …

You could just get a refurbished Samsung phone on Amazon

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

I recently bought a used Galaxy phone, and now Samsung is leaning into that market on Amazon after raising prices on its newest phones. Its certified renewed phones are available on Amazon for the first time, with a new battery and a one-year warranty. They currently start at $489 for the Galaxy S24 FE with 128GB of storage, significantly less than its $649 launch price, or $699 for the current-gen S26 FE.

I got that exact same phone in August after cracking the screen on my Nothing CMF Phone 1. But my used 128GB Galaxy S24 FE cost $329 on Back Market, over $100 less than the certified renewed one Samsung is offering. I've gone with preowne …

Coolpad’s new $150 Android phone has a wider screen like the iPhone Duo, but doesn’t fold

The design of widescreen folding phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Huawei Pura X View, and now the iPhone Duo, is starting to influence traditional slab phones. Similar to the Huawei Pura X View that launched in China in August, the new Coolpad Cool X Wide has a much wider screen than what's typically seen in non-folding phones. The screen real estate is more on par with what you get from a tiny tablet, or what the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 offer when closed, minus huge price tags, budget-stressing repair costs, and inevitable screen creases.

The Coolpad Cool X Wide is now available for preorder through JD.com in China for 999 C …

Bose acquires Skullcandy to help it reach a wider audience

A pile of Skullcandy headphones sitting on a mixing board in a studio.

Bose announced today it has acquired Skullcandy. Although the two companies are competitors in the consumer audio space, Skullcandy recently partnered with its new owner to bring several of Bose's audio technologies - including its head-tracking spatial audio and excellent active noise cancellation (ANC) - to products like the Skullcandy Crusher 1080 ANC headphones and Method 360 ANC earbuds.

Specific details about the deal weren't shared, but according to a news release, Bose plans to keep Skullcandy a separate brand that will become part of its premium consumer audio business. Skullcandy will remain based in Park City, Utah, where it was …
