I often hear this complaint online: Women spend hours prepping for a first date, curling their hair, doing their makeup, and choosing an outfit that’s both cute and casual. We hear conflicting advice: Don’t look like you’re trying too hard, but still look presentable. Don’t show too much skin, but don’t dress overly modest either. You want to appear cool, calm, and collected…but definitely not overly confident.

With all these rules, it’s no wonder so many women dread dating in the first place. As a result, some are going the opposite direction and testing what’s called the “Sweatpants Dating Theory.” This viral social media/TikTok trend removes the pressure to dress up and encourages women to embrace their natural beauty—while staying comfortable in sweatpants. The theory suggests that you’ll attract better matches.

What Is the Sweatpants Dating Theory?

Julie Nguyen, a certified dating coach at Hily Dating App, defines the sweatpants dating theory as “a viral dating trend on TikTok that says dressing comfortably in cozy clothes can actually increase your odds of meeting new people and attracting a higher-quality man because it signals confidence, genuineness, and being low-maintenance, which makes women seem more approachable.”

Is there any validity to this theory? Well, it depends on who you ask.

According to Dr. Dakari Quimby, PhD, MA, Clinical Advisor of Marietta Springs, a modern evidence-based treatment center located in Marietta, Georgia, “Sweatpants cannot attract higher-quality men in any reliable sense, and someone’s character is judged through respect, consistency, and whether words match behavior over time.”

However…

“If you’re looking to make connections with others, you may feel more relaxed and comfortable in casual clothing,” he adds. “In turn, others may perceive you as more relaxed and approachable as well. It will take the pressure off you and, ironically, make you more likable and less socially awkward.”

Why Might Wearing Sweatpants Attract More Genuine Connections

As stated above, wearing sweatpants to a first date can shift an otherwise anxiety-inducing or awkward interaction into a more lighthearted, casual affair.

“You seem more approachable, friendlier, and less intimidating,” Nguyen explains. “They’re seeing you in a more effortless, relaxed state.”

However, this doesn’t mean you should dress like a total slob with unwashed sweatpants and a stained T-shirt.

“It’s important to lean into cozy clothes where you feel more confident, but not too baggy or worn out where it can feel like a complete lack of effort,” Nguyen explains.

Therapists’ Opinions on the Theory

Therapists seem to have mixed opinions on this particular dating theory and its relevance in today’s dating scene.

“I totally agree [with the theory] because this is how I attracted my boyfriend,” says Nguyen. “I met him when I was dressed more casually in baggy jeans and a Yankees cap with no makeup. I brought a book to the coffee shop and felt like I was able to be more relaxed, which was attractive to him.”

On the other hand, Quimby has some notes on the idea.

“I agree with showing up authentically, but I disagree that one outfit improves your dating pool,” says Quimby. “So remind yourself to choose clothes that you feel good in. If you’re still stuck on what to wear, focus on choosing something that makes you feel good. However, it is human nature that we judge on ‘first’ impression.”

What the Sweatpants Theory Reveals About Modern Dating

According to Nguyen, this theory shows that “people are looking for someone they can imagine sitting on the couch with, laid-back, and being themselves.” 

“There’s something incredibly attractive about someone who feels comfortable in their own skin and doesn’t feel the need to impress anyone,” she says.

Relationships aren’t always expensive date nights, luxurious outings, or fancy clothing. Letting someone see your more natural, casual side offers a level of intimacy most first dates lack.

However, this idea extends far beyond our external appearances. It’s all about showing up authentically, which can be done with or without sweatpants.

“The popularity of this idea reflects how much people want dating to feel less performative and more authentic, but clothing alone is not a reliable test of compatibility,” Quimby says.

Nintendo has released 11 new Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake screenshots to give players a closer look at its updated version of the Nintendo 64 classic before its November 5 launch. The images were revealed in Nintendo’s latest Japanese promotional campaign.

However, because these scenes appeared in an overseas trailer, some North American players might have missed them. Thankfully, the new screenshots give us one final preview of how Nintendo has reimagined Hyrule in the much-anticipated Zelda remake.

More than four decades after its arcade debut, this retro shooter is now available on modern consoles.

Stinger Arrives on Modern Consoles and PC

Stinger originally hit arcades all the way back in 1983, but the retro shooter is returning now for a modern console release. The original Arcade Archives version of the game arrive for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in the summer of 2025, but now the Arcade Archives 2 version is available for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series consoles.

“Take control of the “STINGER WOLF” and head to the center of an enemy base where evil life forms roam. In an emergency, you can call on the friendly robot “BONGO” to automatically destroy the enemy.”

The Arcade Archives 2 version of the game costs $9.99 on all platforms. Players who already own the Nintendo Switch or PS4 version will also be able to upgrade to Nintendo Switch 2 or PS5 for just $2.99.

As always, the Arcade Archives version of the retro title aims to recreate the original experience, but also adds a handful of modern conveniences and quality-of-life upgrades.

Growing up as a Millennial, I’ve learned (and since unlearned) a ton of old-fashioned dating advice and expectations. One concept that’s always stuck with me is the idea of one partner “wearing the pants” in the relationship. Usually, this person is the more authoritative, dominant, and traditionally “masculine” partner—the “head of the house,” so to speak.

I’ve always thought the statement was silly and outdated. In fact, I remember my high school boyfriend’s friend spewing it at me as an insult. God forbid a woman wants some power in her relationship…I wear my pants with pride.

But I digress.

Though the phrase is a bit antiquated today, its underlying context does shed light on potentially unhealthy or unbalanced dynamics between partners. Here are four signs you “wear the pants” in your relationship—and should maybe delegate a bit of your responsibility and control.

1. You Make Most of the Decisions

Many relationships have one primary decision-maker and one go-with-the-flow partner. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it can lead to imbalance and resentment on both ends.

“I’d look at who makes the plans and [whether] they check in with their partner first,” says April Davis, founder and celebrity matchmaker at LUMA Luxury Matchmaking and an accredited dating coach. “If someone books a vacation or agrees to host Thanksgiving without checking, they probably assume their partner will go along with it. That’s a sign that they wear the pants in the relationship.”

2. You Make and Manage Most of the Money

This is where the idiom gets a bit outdated, as it often refers to the money-maker as the one in control. However, that isn’t always the case.

“Money plays a huge part in relationship dynamics, especially when one person is supporting the other,” says Davis. “Being the higher earner doesn’t automatically mean you wear the pants, but if ‘I’m the one paying for it’ ends the argument, that probably means you wear the pants.”

It also probably means you use money as power, in which case, you should probably do some self-reflection.

3. You Usually Have the Final Say

In a healthy relationship, both individuals should feel they have an equal say on important decisions and compromises.

“Who gets their way after an argument can tell you who really wears the pants,” Davis points out. “Everyone gives in on things they don’t care much about. But if it’s the same person making concessions every time, even on things that matter to them, that’s a pretty good sign.”

4. Your Plans and Goals Come First

Look, I get it: we all want to respect our own plans and life goals. But relationships require (some) sacrifice. Neither partner should feel like the supporting character in the other’s life.

“Maybe you always spend the holidays with their family, or weekend plans depend on what they want to do. As a matchmaker, I’d want to know whether their partner likes that or has just stopped expressing their needs,” says Davis. “Some people are happy to let their partner take the lead. The problem is when one person feels they don’t get a say.”

Yana Panfilova was 10 years old when her mother told her she had been born with HIV. At the time, what little she knew about the virus came from one very famous death.

“I didn’t know anything about HIV, only that Freddie Mercury died of AIDS,” recalls Panfilova, who grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine. “My initial question was: when would I die?” 

‘Don’t tell anybody’: facing stigma 

Panfilova’s mother, who was working with teenagers living with HIV, reassured her daughter that with the right medication, she could live a long life. 

But her grandmother, who had grown up in the Soviet Union and whose views had been shaped by decades of misinformation, had a very different message: “Don’t tell anybody because everybody will hate you”. 

It was one of Panfilova’s first experiences with HIV stigma. It wouldn’t be her last. 

Panfilova saw a classmate living with HIV face beatings and calls for her expulsion. When Panfilova confided in her best friend that she had the virus, the girl broke down in tears, afraid she had acquired HIV just from sharing a plate. 

Recalling her friend’s reaction: “She was so angry and upset. She was biased because in our schools, nobody provided the right information about HIV and AIDS.” 

Driven to change the lives of other young people impacted by HIV, Panfilova is one of The Unstoppables—brilliant minds that are breaking barriers and driving progress in HIV.   

Fighting prejudice and championing a new generation 

Refusing her grandmother’s advice to stay silent, Panfilova publicly disclosed her HIV status at her first press conference in Moldova when she was just 14 years old. She wanted young people living with HIV to have a voice in conversations that were usually happening without them. 

Panfilova came to believe that young people living with HIV were too often treated as passive recipients of services rather than as people with their own experiences, rights and ideas. She wanted them to help design and lead the responses intended to support them.

In 2015, Panfilova established Teenergizer, a youth-led organisation focused on HIV awareness, mental health and the rights of adolescents across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, one of the few regions in the world where HIV rates are rising. Her aim was not simply to provide services to young people, but to create a movement in which young people themselves could become counsellors, advocates and decision-makers.

Across the region, misinformation and stigma continue to affect access to HIV prevention, testing and treatment. Teenergizer works to challenge these barriers while advocating for care that is inclusive, respectful and shaped by the communities who use it.

“In these regions, people still think that if you have HIV, you must be gay or you’re a drug user or sex worker. But if you look at the epidemic, a large proportion of those impacted are actually heterosexual.”  

Building an international union of youth activists 

What started as a small group of friends in Kyiv has grown into one of the region’s most influential youth-led movements. “We had a lot of energy, a lot of ideas and we knew we couldn’t ask adults to help implement it.” 

Teenergizer launched a website for young people to share their stories, then developed a peer-to-peer support network that has reached more than 156,000 young people through online psychological counselling. Working with hundreds of peer counsellors, the organisation offers support from people who understand the everyday realities of adolescence.

“Teenagers don’t always want to hear from doctors in white coats. Sometimes, they want to talk to someone who gets first-date nerves, school bullies, and everything else that comes with being a teenager.”

Today, Teenergizer still holds onto that grassroots approach while pushing for policy changes, including judgement-free, “low-threshold” HIV testing and greater access to mental health support. Panfilova also sees medical innovation as a priority, so that teenagers can have a greater choice of prevention and treatment options tailored to their individual needs and preferences.

Speaking for 38 million people at the United Nations

In 2021, Panfilova opened the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, speaking on behalf of more than 38 million people living with HIV worldwide at the time. She addressed heads of state, ministers, ambassadors and United Nations leaders.

Her message was a call to confront stigma, discrimination and inequalities in the global HIV response. She urged governments to make medical innovations and life-saving treatments available to people everywhere, and called for comprehensive sexuality education, psychosocial and peer support for adolescents living with HIV, and community-led HIV services.

Her address brought the experiences and priorities of young people and communities living with HIV directly to global decision-makers, reinforcing her belief that the people most affected must help shape the policies and services intended for them.

Continuing her advocacy and studying Global Law

Panfilova also discussed the importance of young people’s mental health with Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Panfilova left Kyiv and continued her advocacy from Berlin before settling in the Netherlands. At Tilburg University, she is now in the second year of her Bachelor’s programme in Global Law, examining how law and institutions shape human rights, equality and access to justice.

Her legal studies build on more than a decade of international advocacy and youth-led organising. They offer a new perspective on the questions at the heart of her work: whose voices are heard, how rights are protected and how institutions can be held accountable. As Teenergizer’s founder, Panfilova remains closely connected to the movement she helped build and its belief that young people should shape decisions affecting their lives.

Partnerships have helped Teenergizer continue its work during periods of limited funding. Support from ViiV Healthcare helped make projects such as Share We Care possible, an online HIV information campaign launched during COVID that was viewed more than 5 million times.

It’s a powerful example of how Teenergizer operates beyond borders to break down stigma and address the psychological impact of HIV on the younger generation.  

“We can’t ignore mental health,” Panfilova says. “We need it, like oxygen or water.”

Another day, another dating theory—and this one is a bit brutal, particularly to men. Coined by relationship counselor and author John Gray in his 1992 bestselling book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, the “Rubber Band Theory” in dating suggests that men alternate between seeking closeness with and seeking space from a partner. 

Like a rubber band, this push-and-pull pattern can greatly affect their ability to form a romantic connection. However, for the man, it’s a desire to maintain their independence within the relationship—not a sign of disinterest.

I spoke with a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist and relationship expert to learn more about this seemingly outdated theory. 

What Is the Rubber Band Dating Theory? 

The rubber band dating theory essentially compares men to a “rubber band” when it comes to intimacy.

“More specifically, they get close, then need to pull away, come back, and then feel stronger in their connection,” says Dr. Sabrina Romanoff, PsyD, Harvard-trained clinical psychologist and relationship expert at Hily Dating App.

This back-and-forth dynamic can cause the other partner emotional whiplash while they’re simply trying to build a connection. But for the man, it’s believed to help him regain his sense of self.

Is There Truth to the Rubber Band Dating Theory?

According to Dr. Romanoff, this rubber-band dynamic is common in dating, particularly with men or anxious-avoidant partners.

“From the male perspective, getting close can feel threatening and scary because it may come with a loss of autonomy or independence,” says Dr. Romanoff. “Their partner’s response to their distance and lack of chase or pressure often guarantees that they will come back on their own terms. On the receiving end, this can feel disorienting, like abandonment, especially after experiences of closeness.”

“It’s common with people who are anxious or ambivalent about a new partner, or about the idea of getting back into a relationship,” Dr. Romanoff adds. “They may retreat, and in that space realize their concerns were out of proportion or irrational, which then prompts their return.” 

Why Men Might Experience Intimacy Like a Rubber Band

This dating theory is often applied as a blanket statement to most male daters. However, men aren’t the only ones who can display this behavior or pattern. For example, many anxious or avoidant women engage in this push-and-pull dynamic with intimacy as well.

“Intimacy is scary for everyone. It often comes with vulnerability and the possibility of getting hurt or rejected,” says Dr. Romanoff. “People often need to ease into it to feel safe and secure. Attachment style also plays a role; people with more avoidant attachment tend to need more space and distance as they attach to romantic partners.”

While dating theories like this one can help us avoid pain, rejection, and confusion in the dating scene, they can also dehumanize individuals who are simply trying their best. Sure, someone might struggle with intimacy at the start of a relationship, but that doesn’t always mean they have malicious intent or will break your heart.

“Bank this pattern as information, but don’t act impulsively by writing them off or aggressively chasing them,” Dr. Romanoff states. “Give them time to come back to you, and recognize it as a data point.”

Pokemon GO players are in for a very exciting week as a new event brings the latest debut and new Pokedex entry to the mobile game.

Minior Debuts in Pokemon GO

Today kicks off the first of a handful of special events in Pokemon GO that will see Minior Showers hitting the game and offering players the chance to catch different color versions of the Gen 7 Rock-/Flying-type.

For those who aren’t familiar with Minior, the Meteor Pokemon comes in seven different colors:

• Minior (Red Core)
• Minior (Orange Core)
• Minior (Yellow Core)
• Minior (Green Core)
• Minior (Blue Core)
• Minior (Indigo Core)
• Minior (Violet Core)

Minior will battle in its Meteor Form until its health is reduced to below 50%, when it will change its form and expose its core. While in Meteor Form, Minior will have higher Defense and lower Attack. While its core is exposed, Minior has higher Attack and lower Defense.

Initially, Minior will only be able to change forms when battling Team GO Rocket, team leaders, or in the GO Battle League.

Pokemon GO trainers might find one in its Meteor Form in the wild during the following meteor showers each year, and they’ll receive increased Stardust for catching Minior. During each of the meteor showers below, one of Minior’s different core colors will make its Pokémon GO debut!

Housemarque just dropped a huge free update for Saros that brings boss rush mode, New Game+, and a handful of additional game modifiers to all Saros owners.

Saros: Zenith Update Arrives October 19

Saros released earlier this year in April 2026 and delivered the highly-anticipated spiritual successor to Returnal. The game featured some similar mechanics, but a whole suite of new accessibility features and a unique system to make each run feel like it was worth the effort.

Saros players are pulled through the game by a unique mystery and narrative, but Housemarque is hoping to add some incentives to play through again even after the main story has been finished.

The Saros: Zenith update aims to add replayability for existing players who had already explored all of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible so even more people can discover the addictive, explosive, exhilarating bullet ballet gameplay that made Saros one of the highest rated action games of 2026.

One of the most unique additions is the Slow Game Speed mode. With this setting enabled, you can slow the game down to give yourself more time to react to hostile attack telegraphs, see the bullets as they fly towards you, and decide your response. The attacks remain the same, but you have a little more time to deal with them.

You have control over how much the game slows down, and can even choose if you want the setting to kick in automatically during combat, or if you want to manually toggle it on when things get hairy.

The new “Auto-fire” accessibility setting makes your weapon fire automatically when you are aiming at a hostile. We know that some players may find it difficult to hold a button down for extended periods of time, so we hope this will help. More broadly, it gives you one less button to worry about during combat, freeing up your brain cycles to hit that dash button at just the right time to avoid taking a hit. Importantly, however, this setting does not make reloading automatic. A perfect reload still requires a well-timed button press. Like our other features, this is designed to make the game more accessible, not remove opportunities for player skill expression.

Combined with the new Motion Sensor Aiming functionality and our existing button remapping settings, players now have many ways to customize how Saros controls.

Beyond these new accessibility features, the team has also greatly expanded the “Carcosan Modifier” system from Saros.

Using this system, players can apply various “Modifiers” to the world of Carcosa to tune the difficulty to their liking. Protection Modifiers alter the game in a way that makes it easier and more forgiving. Zenith brings 10 new Protection Modifiers, to give players having a difficult time even more ways of customizing their experience.

The New Game+ mode known as “Eclipse Layers” has also been introduced. After clearing Saros, mysterious new nodes will be added to the Armor Matrix back at Passage. These are the key to unlocking the gate to the next Eclipse Layer, a more intense version of the game with altered rules.

John Ford’s classic 1950 Western Rio Grande stars John Wayne as Lieutenant Colonel Kirby Yorke, whose regiment is tasked with defending settlers in Texas from Apaches during the late 1800s. Kirby is in charge of training new recruits and soon learns that his son, Jefferson, whom he hasn’t seen in more than a decade, has enlisted as a private in the Army. Kirby informs the teenage boy (played by Claude Jarman Jr.) that he won’t be getting any special treatment and proceeds to whip him into shape. However, before long, Kirby’s estranged wife, Kathleen (Maureen O’Hara), shows up to take their son home.

A little over an hour into the film, Kirby tells his wife that he’s decided not to bring Jefferson along with him in pursuit of the Apaches in Mexico. Though Rio Grande remains beloved for a great many reasons, this scene in particular has attracted considerable attention in recent years—and not for anything that was intended by the cast or crew. If you keep your eye on the top left-hand part of the screen as Kirby’s breaking the news to Kathleen, you’ll see what looks like a UFO shooting across the sky in the background. Did John Ford Accidentally Capture a UFO in His 1950 Western ‘Rio Grande’?

Naturally, this discovery has sparked an ongoing debate regarding what’s actually happening in that footage. While several sources claim that Rio Grande was filmed entirely on location in Monument Valley, some parts of the movie were said to have been shot at Republic Studios in Los Angeles. The zoomed-in portions of the video above make it appear as though the sequence in question was recorded on a soundstage. So, for that to be an alien craft flying around behind John Wayne, keep in mind that it would have to be a pretty tiny one.

Is that enough to rule out the possibility of a UFO in everyone’s mind? Of course not, but the fact that neither of the actors in the scene noticed or reacted to what was going on reveals how insignificant it was. After all, even a really small craft would make a noise if it was right next to you, no? The more likely explanation is that Ford captured light reflecting off of the backdrop, and probably just didn’t realize it—or care enough about it to bother reshooting the sequence.

The October 28, 1995 episode of MADtv featured a parody trailer for a fictional horror movie called Apollo the 13th: Jason Takes NASA. This was, of course, referencing both Apollo 13 and the Friday the 13th films (the eighth entry of which was subtitled Jason Takes Manhattan). In the apparent crossover—that we’re told has been directed by Ron Howard—Jason Voorhees somehow ends up aboard a spaceship on its way to the cosmos. Predictably, this leads to plenty of bloodshed.

One by one, Jason picks off the ship’s other passengers, much like he would in a typical Friday the 13th sequel. “No American’s ever been hacked to pieces in space by a hockey mask wearing homicidal maniac, and it sure as hell isn’t gonna happen on my watch,” says the flight director, played by Artie Lange—who’s clearly spoofing Ed Harris’s character from Apollo 13. The two-minute “teaser” concludes with the narrator saying, “One small step for man, one giant slash for Jason.” Check it out for yourself below.

A 1995 ‘MADtv’ Sketch Basically Predicted the Entire Premise of ‘Jason X’

Hilariously enough, six years after MADtv aired that segment, the folks at New Line Cinema decided it was time to take Jason to outer space for real. 2001’s Jason X finds the beloved serial killer in pretty much the same exact situation as his Apollo the 13th counterpart. The plot of the film might not be identical to the skit, but the basic premise seems almost too close to be a coincidence: Jason gets brought into space, it unsurprisingly doesn’t curb his desire to murder people, and a rampage ensues.

It’s ironic that the movie even got made, considering that the whole point of the MADtv send-up was to show how ridiculous the idea was. As you probably could’ve guessed, Jason X wasn’t exactly well-received. Not that any of the Friday the 13th entries were ever critically acclaimed, but the earlier sequels are at least looked at as classics by some horror fans. At press time, Jason X has the second-lowest audience score out of the entire series on Rotten Tomatoes—putting it only slightly behind 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday.

Thanks to a team of heroes, a southern ground hornbill, belonging to Amsterdam’s Artis Zoo, is now flourishing with a brand-new prosthetic beak. The bird received two 3D-printed prostheses, as both the upper and lower portions of his natural beak were broken. In a press statement, Artis penned that, while other birds have been the happy recipients of prosthetic beaks, “As far as is known, this is the first time in the world both parts of a bird’s beak have been restored in this way.”

While the young bird of honor valiantly managed to persist adequately enough in his everyday life prior to the surgery, the zoo confirmed that his behavior was restricted, and he couldn’t care for himself all that well. Obviously, the southern ground hornbill relies on its beak for purposes as preening and foraging, thus he had trouble picking up certain pieces of food.

Fortunately, the bird began using his new beak the very same day it was attached. Before continuing with the article, you can see below that the heartwarming medical miracle means that he’s already back to grossing some of us out by preying on mice.

This Bird Got a Brand-New 3D-Printed Beak, and He’s Already Putting It to Work

The life-altering procedure was performed by Artis, Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht, and Amnovis. The artificial beak was developed with the help of a CT scan and preserved sections of the bird’s original beak. Both plastic and titanium elements were incorporated. The NY Post adorably applauded the “im-peck-able performance.”

Of course, Artis is keeping an eye both on the bird and his female partner in order to make sure that all continues to go swimmingly, though they are prepared to step in if any issues occur.

Now, watch the complex procedure for yourself! Warning: Although it’s unbelievable, it just might be a bit disturbing for animal lovers to see the anesthetized bird.

Have you noticed that healthy eating doesn’t always leave you feeling full of those vitamins and minerals that translate into energy and glowing skin? According to a report from Deep Science Ventures, many fruits and vegetables available for purchase are half as nutritious as they were 60 years ago.

Thus, consumers often have to eat twice as much to receive the same levels of minerals as magnesium, potassium, and copper. The 20-50% drop in key nutrients and minerals extends to other crops like wheat and foods in general. Your breads won’t have the same iron, zinc, and magnesium that your grandparents’ loaves had in the 1960s. It is no wonder that so many of us suffer from micronutrient deficiencies.

Declining soil quality is a key factor to blame. Also, as global demand has increased, the focus on high-yield crop varieties and farming practices hasn’t always been conducive to health. In addition, you might have noticed during your last trip to (even to a supposedly upscale) grocery store that many of the products felt and looked as though they had been stored for ages. We are all moreover aware of the horrors of genetically modified foods, and now there are all the fears surrounding lab-grown options.

A New Report Suggests Some Foods Have Lost Up to Half Their Nutritional Value

It can be difficult to tell which of our healthy habits need improvement these days. For example, even our berries can seem like little carcinogens: Driscoll’s CEO stepped down at the end of August amid complaints about pesticides. With all the causes for paranoia, even concerning supposedly organic foods, my admiration grows for those among us who rely upon themselves, opting for homesteading.

Obviously, farmers who use ethical practices should be supported. Yet, they often are not… Thus, our French farmer friends, for instance, have demonstrated their grievances by heading into town and spraying government buildings and more with manure — proof of their ingenuity.

In various respects, Denmark, which is often referred to as one of the happiest countries in the world, has long set a most excellent example for other nations to follow. Again, as of late, Denmark has become a topic of discussion internationally, but we’re not yet sure that it is for the right reasons this time. If all goes according to plan, teachers will be allowed to physically restrain and remove disruptive primary-school students from August 2027 onward. Granted, the final bill won’t be presented until February 2026, and many have already stepped up in protest.

The original proposal was drafted this past autumn by now former Minister for Education and Children Mat­tias Tes­faye (a man who, in blaming the effects of bad parenting for aggravating the environment in classrooms, used foul language himself). Denmark has not allowed the application of physical force in schools since 1967, when corporal punishment in schools was banned nationwide. Within the US, for example, there are still some states that allow corporal punishment in institutions of learning.

Let it be understood, Denmark’s new bill is not a green light to be cruel. On the contrary, it clarifies that force is only to be used only as a last resort. It should be “gentle and short-lived as circumstances allow.” For example, a student may be held in place or guided out of the room. Parents will be notified if force is used against their child. Reasons for physical intervention include instances in which a student harms themselves, others, or poses some sort of threat; damages property; disrupts lessons in a significant way; etc. I find the notion of physically correcting those disruptive students who aren’t causing bodily harm problematic, as it presents a significant gray area.

It could prove a good way to emotionally scar children, whether diagnosed or yet to be diagnosed, with special needs. In addition, sorry if I say so, but it just isn’t natural to make little balls of energy sit still for so long, thus it’s understandable that they are going to be wiggly and obnoxious. (If you ask me, too many children are on ADHD medication simply because authorities don’t always understand the difference between a genuine problem and what is arising from external circumstances that aren’t conducive to a normal child’s health and programming.)

Denmark Wants to Let Teachers Physically Restrain Disruptive Students, Sparking Debate

The general idea behind the proposed law is that teachers must not be left in doubt as to their rights when they can clearly see that a situation is escalating, or before the chair flies through the air, to repeat an example given by the vigilant Danes. It comes as a response to the reported increase in violence in Danish schools — in 2025, physical violence among students was recorded at least once in 55% of classes, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Education. One in three teachers refrained from physical contact out of fear of the repercussions. The Danish Working Environment Authority found that in one of five classes, teachers themselves become the targets of violence.

At the end of the day, not having such a bill will inevitably lead to harm, as, again, not all teachers will instinctively do what’s right without its protection out of fear of losing their jobs and more. On the other hand, even if the majority of my elementary-school teachers were angels, I, for one, can attest that I was definitely subjected to a fair number of screwballs as a pupil. In other words, while many teachers are nothing short of heroic, we can all agree that some, like a share of those belonging to any profession, suffer from judgment issues, and this obviously becomes especially dangerous since children are involved.

Another issue I’ll raise is that many primary school students can already be quite strong, so I would hope that, if the proposal goes into effect, Denmark would train their teachers in how to disable someone posing a risk in a minimally harmful manner. Granted, in an ideal world, that shouldn’t ever be a teacher’s concern, but their jobs are becoming increasingly intolerable, as the appreciation they receive seems to be decreasing…

In the US, a recent report by the Walton Family Foundation, Gallup, and the Mattering Institute confirmed that one in four public-school educators said they are likely to quit within the next year. Maybe you’ve seen videos of teachers crying after their little antagonists have left for the day? That said and while acknowledging that sometimes it’s simply impossible, it would be great if teachers could command respect by way of their words and strength of character, rather than by force.

During a recent trip to Fiji, a Russian travel blogger named Olga Bavykina, whom you may also call Zabotkina, encountered one adorably enthusiastic shop employee, whom I’m sure she won’t forget. She aptly captioned her video of him, «Когда очень гордишься наследием предков», or “When you are really proud of your ancestors”…

The charismatic man indeed embodies healthy pride, as he shows off the kinds of tools his ancestors used for cannibalistic purposes — unique souvenirs to bring back to your loved ones. Our informative friend exclaims, “We eat people for the power.” I want to know more about his people’s current practices, as even without having consumed human flesh himself, he still exudes more charisma than your average protein-shake-clutching, yoga-mat-lugging American health nut.

Fijian Shopkeeper Goes Viral for Showing Tourists His Ancestors’ Cannibalism Tools

Our cultural emissary demonstrates the manner in which a brain might be extracted in order to give to a chief so that he might absorb wisdom, lending new meaning to the term brainiac; warriors become tough from partaking of the muscle, he explains. The taste of victory is sweet, isn’t it? He further clarifies that the ritual of cannibalism was upheld for religious reasons, not to satisfy hunger.

Needless to say, it is clear that the man of whom we’ve been speaking is very “metal” and could certainly serve as a conceptual and lyrical advisor to a band or two. Naturally, many of our forebears observed traditions that might not be viewed as acceptable within the rigid moral framework of today, so he causes us all to reflect upon our cultural heritage.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the biggest television shows of the late 90s, launching the careers of many big Hollywood names, including Sarah Michelle Gellar. However, Buffy also featured guest stars who had accomplished careers at the time of filming—and ones who had scheduling conflicts.

1. Britney Spears

Britney Spears is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names, and she was a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was also friends with Gellar, so a cameo seemed like a natural fit. Spears was lined up to play April, a robot “girlfriend” Warren created to make him happy. Ultimately, actress Shonda Farr got the role because Spears had scheduling conflicts. When the episode aired in 2001, Spears was at the height of her fame; her name was on every headline. The media scrutinized her to no end, and had she appeared on Buffy in this role, it would’ve given her harshest critics even more ammo to bully her. So while we would’ve loved to see Spears on the show, it was probably for the best.

2. Freddie Prinze Jr.

Speaking of people with a real-life connection to Gellar, her longtime husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., auditioned for a role on the show. He auditioned for Dracula on Season 5, but Randolph Martin got the role. If Freddie had gotten it, it would’ve been the third project they’d starred in together early in their careers. They met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997 and started dating three years later, eventually filming the live-action Scooby-Doo films as Fred and Daphne. Since then, they’ve starred in several animated projects together.

3. Katie Holmes

Before she starred in Dawson’s Creek, Katie Holmes auditioned for the titular character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer but turned it down to finish high school. Although she never appeared on Buffy, other actresses who auditioned for the role landed roles on the show, including Julie Benz and Mercedes McNab.

4. Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds was offered the role of Buffy’s best friend Xander Harris—a key member of the Scooby Gang—but declined because he didn’t want to play a high school character. Xander appeared in all seven seasons, which would’ve given Reynolds a consistent paycheck. However, it’s a prime example of betting on yourself. In 1998, he made his big break on NBC’s sitcom Two Guys and a Girl.

5. Natasha Lyonne

A fresh-faced Natasha Lyonne was making a name for herself on the indie film circuit, which eventually helped land her a breakout feature film role in 1999’s American Pie. Before that, though, Lyonne alleges she was first in the running to play Buffy Summers. However, she didn’t want to commit to a network at 16, so she turned down the role and other WB roles.

Since 2016, Netflix’s Stranger Things has shown fans a much darker side of Indiana. Although the show had its series finale last year, it remains a huge fixture of pop culture. But 25 years before The Duffer Brothers introduced millions to Hawkins, Indiana, and The Party, NBC aired its own sci-fi show, Eerie, Indiana.

Eerie, Indiana follows teenager Marshall Teller, who has just moved to a small Midwestern town. The more he explores, the more he realizes there’s strange paranormal activity. With the help of his friends, they investigate the urban legends and supernatural events plaguing the town.

Although it only aired 19 episodes, Eerie, Indiana has developed a cult following. It dared to be different in a time when conventional television was the way forward. Shows like Eerie proved that oddball stuff had a place too, inspiring many shows we see today. It directly inspired Disney’s beloved animated series, Gravity Falls. “I was obsessed with Eerie Indiana,” Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch wrote on X. “Gravity Falls was literally just me as an adult trying to reboot my favorite cancelled show from when I was a kid.”

They both follow groups of children who uncover supernatural elements and otherworldly creatures in the heartland of America—unassuming Midwest towns. They also have the nostalgic factor. While Stranger Things is a modern interpretation of the ‘80s, Eerie, Indiana was filmed in the ‘90s, making it an authentic time capsule for the 90s babies.

They share a lot of similarities, but their biggest difference is their format. Stranger Things is a serialized sci-fi drama, while Eerie, Indiana leans into comedy and surrealism. Stranger Things isn’t an exact copy of Eerie, Indiana. However, for sci-fi fans, it fills the void that the Netflix show leaves behind.

For years, fans were anxiously wondering if D’Angelo would ever return with a new album. A decade had passed since he released his incredible comeback album Black Messiah. Before that, it was a 14-year hiatus since Voodoo in 2000. With every album, his diehard fanbase was left thinking they may have heard his last album.

But behind the scenes, he was always working. Close friend and collaborator Questlove teased that he was hard at work on songs up until his tragic passing in October 2025. Now, his family has confirmed that there’s a vault of music they’re ready to share with fans.

In an interview with Kiss Richmond, D’Angelo’s brother Luther Archer revealed that a posthumous album was finally in the works. Currently, they have six songs locked and loaded that were made intentionally for an album. Then, there’s an additional set of records sitting in the vault they’ll pick to match.

“Just him. So no collaborations. There are six tracks [so far]. But then we have a whole vault of music that’s never been released. So we’re trying to figure out what we’re going to add, what we’re going to take away… But yeah, there’s a posthumous album,” he shared.

Additionally, there are various B-sides and covers that Archer is mulling over for release in the future. In the mix, there is a blockbuster collaboration that any R&B fan is probably dying to hear. “We’re also thinking about a whole album of B-sides. And then we’re also thinking about—because he was big on covers… so there’s several projects down the road. There’s one with Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson,” D’Angelo’s brother said.

Ultimately, the “Brown Sugar” crooner’s relationship with the music industry also informed a lot of his long gaps between releases. In an old Rolling Stone interview leading up to Black Messiah, he admitted that the music business was significantly different by the time he was ready to work on another album.

People on the internet are understandably on high alert when it comes to AI. Many remain vigilant at all times that something they’re watching might be AI and/or flatly incorrect. However, many artists themselves are embracing the technology for their work. But not Olivia Rodrigo.

When she released the music video for her song “expectations” with Chappell Roan, many people online suspected that it was made with AI-generated visuals. They pointed to various inconsistencies in how the fingers looked or certain animation choices. However, through her official fan account, she revealed that the music video was hand-drawn and created with 2D and 3D animation. Then, they used analog TV screens for the desired graphic texture to recreate the 80s aesthetic.

Her diehard fans rejoiced and clapped back against haters online for even speculating that Olivia Rodrigo would use AI. However, this isn’t even the first time skeptics assumed that she would be pro-artificial intelligence. In an October 7th cover story with the Hollywood Reporter, she addressed rumors that she was dating a private equity associate for an AI investment firm. Before she even tackled the AI, she made it clear that she was single anyway. Then, she lamented the invasiveness of her love life in the first place.

“To be stalked outside of your home and then these pictures are being used as evidence that you’re a bad person, it’s just the craziest thing. But I know who I am, and I know what my values are, and I try to just hold on to it at the end of the day. I wish that I could be 23 years old and experience life normally,” Olivia Rodrigo told the outlet.

“It’s so hard and kind of sad, especially because relationships are supposed to be something private,” she continued. “I feel like every time I go on a casual date with a guy, there’s a picture of it on the internet, which feels really invasive. Sometimes you’re out with a guy who’s not your boyfriend, and suddenly the internet’s like, ‘They’re married, blah blah blah.’”

When it came to AI itself, Olivia Rodrigo recoiled at the thought. To affirm her belief, she and her producer tried ChatGPT just to see the results. Safe to say, they loathed what came out.

“Absolutely no. Hard line on that,” Rodrigo stressed. “The closest I’d ever got is that once, me and [producer] Dan [Nigro] were like, ‘God, I wonder what ideas ChatGPT would have for an Olivia Rodrigo title.’ They [were] all f**king awful.”

The idea of cancel culture today doesn’t make sense because people have criticized artists for decades over their choices. The only difference is today, fans might “cancel” an artist for something actively harmful they’ve done. Back in the day, public outrage was over trivial matters like censored words or evocative imagery that’s meant to make you think. If it even registered as mildly offensive, people would organize and share their disdain until authorities did something about it.

‘Pumps and a Bump’ by MC Hammer

If you can believe it, MC Hammer of all people was actually controversial at one point. It’s hard to initially wrap your mind around the idea that the “U Can’t Touch This” guy could be anything other than great for a Taco Bell commercial. He could dance, his energy was contagious, and he didn’t cuss in his lyrics. Hammer was extremely marketable, from his friendly rapping to his outrageous pants.

However, people also used those cleaner aspects of his image and tore into him accordingly. A Tribe Called Quest and Redman made it a point to mock MC Hammer and his over-the-top nature. That meant people didn’t take him seriously, and that was a massive concern to him. Consequently, he made a hard pivot to the stylings of G-Funk, all while still somehow maintaining his dancing. It was weird, complicated, and frankly didn’t make any sense.

The first music video ushering in this moment was “Pumps and a Bump”. There, you can find him strutting around in a Speedo, gyrating all in the camera. MTV took it off the air accordingly, prompting MC Hammer to have to make a new music video if he wanted his promotion to go right.

‘Like a Prayer’ by Madonna

People will always get defensive over Christianity. No matter how a critique might be, it’s always seen as too sacred to disparage. Consequently, when Madonna used Catholic iconography to point out hypocrisy, MTV viewers were outraged. Eventually, her daring music video cost her a Pepsi commercial but won her an MTV VMA in the end. Considering how people treated Lil Nas X in his wilder videos, they would’ve crucified Madonna all the same.

‘Tip Drill’ by Nelly

The rampant misogyny alone would’ve seen Nelly in hot water for “Tip Drill”. Before you get into the lyrics of the St. Louis rapper scoffing that “it must be your a** ’cause it ain’t yo face“, the music video is wildly explicit. The only way you could’ve seen it in its full form was on BET Uncut, where women were completely topless and in bathtubs. Meanwhile, Nelly and the St. Lunatics were slapping their butts and sliding credit cards in their cracks. If people today find that there’s somehow too much sex in movies today, they’d have a heart attack over “Tip Drill”.
