Marvel’s Wolverine Tops US Sales Despite Launch Controversies

22 October 2026 at 16:37

Marvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling video game in the US for September 2026, despite facing multiple controversies around launch. According to sales tracking company Circana, Insomniac Games’ PS5 exclusive beat out new releases from EA, Capcom, and Nintendo to take the top spot.

While Marvel’s Wolverine has sparked plenty of debate online, that hasn’t stopped Logan from having a strong debut. Circana’s September rankings put the PlayStation exclusive ahead of NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27, which finished second and third, respectively.

Nintendo’s Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave landed in fourth place, while The Blood of Dawnwalker rounded out the top five. For your convenience, here are the top 10 best-selling games in the US for September 2026:

RankGame
1Marvel’s Wolverine
2NBA 2K27
3EA Sports FC 27
4Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
5The Blood of Dawnwalker
6WARDOGS
7Onimusha: Way of the Sword
8Halloween: The Game
9Ace Combat 8
10Madden NFL 27

Note: The rankings measure physical and full-game digital dollar sales, rather than the number of copies sold. Mobile games and digital add-on content are excluded.

Interestingly, Marvel’s Wolverine also delivered the biggest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published game since Helldivers 2 in February 2024. The superhero title entered the US year-to-date chart at number 11, giving it a strong starting position after its first month.

Marvel’s Wolverine Sells Strongly Despite Online Backlash

Of course, the road to that number-one debut wasn’t exactly quiet. If you followed the conversation around Marvel’s Wolverine at launch, you probably saw more than a few heated discussions.

Players mocked its Scent Trails as “fart gas,” prompting Insomniac to reduce their opacity in an update. Separately, Insomniac clarified that Logan and Sabretooth’s relationship wasn’t romantic after comments about their bond were misinterpreted online.

However, online backlash doesn’t necessarily tell us how everyone feels about a game. Its early PlayStation Store player ratings were overwhelmingly positive: 4.83/5 at launch, with over 92% awarding five stars.

Those launch ratings don’t represent every buyer, and strong sales alone can’t tell us whether someone enjoyed their purchase. Still, taken together, the early player response and September sales chart suggest the negative conversation wasn’t the whole story.

GTA 3 Turns 25: 10 Facts You Might Not Know

22 October 2026 at 16:18

It’s hard to believe, but GTA 3 is officially 25 years old today. Originally released on October 22, 2001, the Rockstar classic changed the way many of us looked at open-world games. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, here are 10 facts you might not know about Grand Theft Auto 3.

GTA 3 Celebrates It’s 25th Anniversary

1. GTA 3’s Early Roots Had a Connection to Sega Dreamcast

GTA 3 Dreamcast
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

While many of us associate GTA 3 with the PlayStation 2, its early history actually involves a different console. According to Rockstar North art director Aaron Garbut, the team experimented with a city prototype using Sega Dreamcast development kits.

This early project already featured cars driving around and pedestrians walking through its streets. The developers eventually decided to turn their work toward a fully 3D Grand Theft Auto, even though some members of the original GTA programming team thought it would be too complicated. Thankfully, they pushed ahead.

2. Claude’s Silence Had a Surprisingly Practical Explanation

GTA 3 Claude Silent Protagonist
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

If you’ve ever wondered why GTA 3 protagonist Claude never speaks, Rockstar has actually explained the decision. Part of it was to help players put themselves in his shoes. However, the bigger reason was that the developers already had plenty of other problems to solve.

With the team figuring out how to make the game’s conversations and cutscenes work, giving Claude dialogue wasn’t a major priority. His silence ended up becoming one of his most memorable traits.

3. The Dodo Was Never Supposed to Be a Proper Plane

GTA 3 Dodo Plane
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

Anyone who spent hours trying to keep the Dodo airborne might find this reassuring: Rockstar never intended it to fly particularly well.

The developers were focused on driving and shooting. Players stretched its flying capabilities through unintended techniques, rather than mastering a fully developed flight system.

4. The Mysterious Ghost Town Was Built for the Opening Cutscene

GTA 3 Ghost Town
Screenshot: Rockstar Games, GTA Myths Wiki

Liberty City’s mysterious Ghost Town wasn’t a scrapped fourth island. Those distant streets were built for the opening bank robbery sequence.

Rockstar placed the scenery away from the main map and didn’t expect players to discover it. So much for keeping that secret! Then again, this is the same community that has spent thousands of hours obsessed with Bigfoot’s cameo in the series.

5. Rockstar Chose Vice City Over Developing GTA 3 Multiplayer

GTA Vice City
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

Rockstar reportedly experimented with multiplayer for GTA 3, but didn’t take it very far. Rather than commit a large team to finishing it, the studio chose to make Vice City. It didn’t believe multiplayer could deliver the experience it wanted yet.

6. Darkel Was Cut Before the September 11 Attacks

GTA 3 Darkel
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

Darkel is one of GTA 3’s most discussed missing characters. However, Rockstar confirmed that his removal happened well before September 11. “Darkel was just a crazy bum who gave you some crazy missions. They were removed a few months before the game was done and long before 9/11 because they just weren’t as good as the rest of the game, and tonally they were a little odd.”

He originally offered five missions, which were gradually dropped because they weren’t as strong as the rest of the game. Once most of his missions were gone, the developers removed the character entirely.

7. The Pedestrian Sound Effects Had Some Unusual Ingredients

GTA 3 NPCs
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

This next detail is a little gross. Rockstar’s pedestrian impact sound combined recorded squelches with additional effects. According to music producer Craig Conner’s recollection, the recording process included crushing fruit and raw chicken in a vocal booth.

8. The Blocked Tunnel Was Never Hiding Another Area

GTA 3 Blocked Tunnel
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

If you wondered what was beyond the closed Shoreside Vale tunnel, the answer is nothing. Rockstar added it to make Liberty City feel connected to a larger world. There was never another destination waiting behind the barriers.

9. One Familiar Artwork Character Wasn’t Someone You Could Meet

GTA 3 Artwork Guy
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

Remember the man wearing glasses and holding a pistol in GTA 3’s artwork? You didn’t miss a mission involving him. The figure originated in concept art by Ian McQue and was incorporated into the game’s promotional illustrations.

According to Rockstar, capturing the atmosphere mattered more than making every illustrated character someone who appeared in the story.

10. The PC Version Let You Save Your Own Instant Replays

GTA 3 PC edition
Screenshot: Rockstar Games

Before sharing gameplay clips became an everyday thing, the original PC version of GTA 3 had a pretty neat feature. Players could replay the previous 30 seconds of action and watch it from different camera angles.

Even better, you could save those moments to your computer and email them to friends. If you pulled off a ridiculous stunt or survived a chaotic police chase, you had a way to prove it. Pretty impressive for an early-2000s PC port.

With GTA 6 release date now just weeks away from launch, it’s incredible to see how far Rockstar Games has come. However even for a 2001, Grand Theft Auto 3 was not only ahead of its time, but it still holds up today as one of all time greats.

Remastered Seafarer’s Sourcebook Delivers 13 Dungeons and Dragons Subclasses

22 October 2026 at 16:06

Tempest: A Seafarer’s Sourcebook is back with a remastered and expanded edition that is jam-packed with new resources to add to Dungeons and Dragons 5e and 5.5e adventures.

Nautical Fantasy Sourcebook Delivers New Classes and Species

Dungeon Masters and players who are planning a swashbuckling adventure in the near future may want to consider checking out the resources included in the newly remastered and expanded edition of Tempest: A Seafarer’s Sourcebook.

One of the most exciting parts of the book for players is going to be the character creation options.

“In Tempest, players can create characters using the book’s selection of unique playable species – including the cephalopodic Cuttlefolk and fish-tailed Mermere – and choose from 13 different subclasses. They can then customise their own ship and crew, before embarking on an epic voyage across a vast ocean filled with dozens upon dozens of different islands to visit, as long as they don’t fall afoul of some titanic sea monster, or a gang of bloodthirsty pirates, or a crew of ghastly undead sailors.”

The book features new subclasses including:

  • a Witch of the Coven of the Sea – chanting elder rituals of brine and curse
  • a Powder Monkey Fighter – armed to the teeth with enough explosives to make kraken calamari
  • the College of Shanties for Bards – which allows you to rally your allies and curse your foes via sea shanties
  • the Bilge Rat for Rogues – who wounds foes with sharp-tongued sailor insults
  • the Captain of the Damned – subclass, which lets Warlocks draw power from the souls of undead sailors

Additionally, the book also contains new playable races and playable subspecies.

Players can create characters by choosing from a roster of fantastical playable species, such as the monkey-esque Bali; feathered and beaked Kara Kara; semi-aquatic Mermeer; cephalopod-like Cuttlefolk; and the newly introduced Foglin, who are spirits of the sea made flesh. Alternatively, there are several subspecies made for existing DnD 5E species, like the electric Stormkin Elves and volcanic Black Sand Dwarves.

The crowdfunding campaign for the sourcebook hit its goal in under an hour and has already raised more than $46,000. Interested gamers can find a pledge tier for either the hardcover book or a digital version.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Dungeons and Dragons news and updates.

Dungeons and Dragons is available now at local game shops and digitally through D&D Beyond, Roll20, and similar online services. Tempest: A Seafarer’s Sourcebook – Remastered Edition is currently is aiming for a March 2027 release date.

Xbox Reveals Cloud Gaming Launch Pricing Tiers

22 October 2026 at 14:53

One of the many changes arriving at Xbox this year is a new approach to cloud gaming and it looks like the team is ready to test out the first paid tier access to the the service for users who don’t have a Game Pass subscription.

All Xbox Cloud Gaming Introductory Price Tiers

A new update for Xbox Insiders offers the first look at how expensive access to Xbox Cloud Gaming hours is going to be for users who are not Game Pass subscribers. This preview gives XBOX Insiders who do not have an active Game Pass subscription an early look at the new option before it rolls out more broadly in November.

During the preview, Xbox Insiders can purchase cloud playtime, stream games on supported devices, and share feedback to help us continue improving the experience.

Cloud playtime is available to Insiders at introductory launch pricing:

  • 10hrs for $3.99
  • 25hrs for $7.99
  • 50hrs for $11.99

According to the announcement, Cloud playtime packs provide an ad-free cloud gaming experience, including shorter wait times, high-quality streaming, and playtime that remains available until it’s used.

This new options adds on to the previous test that allowed Xbox Insiders can also try cloud gaming for free with ads, giving players another option for accessing cloud gaming without a Game Pass subscription.

Gamers should definitely take note that these pricing tiers are described as “introductory launch pricing.” That seems to suggest that the final prices may be higher once the feature becomes available now widely outside of the Xbox Insiders community of testers.

Additionally, many Game Pass subscribers are still waiting to find out when unlimited Cloud Gaming access is going to be removed from the Game Pass Ultimate subscription tier. The announcement about this change explained that the update would impact a very small number of gamers, but there was still some negative reactions to the change on social media.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Xbox news and updates.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer Launches Without Open Matchmaking

22 October 2026 at 14:49

The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is already off to a rocky start for some players. From reports of long queue times to sweaty lobbies, the game’s matchmaking has quickly become a point of frustration. However, players hoping to switch things up have discovered that MW4 multiplayer does not currently have Open playlists.

Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer Has No Open Matchmaking Playlists at Launch

Open matchmaking playlists are currently unavailable in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer. For MW4 players who were hoping to have the option at launch, its absence has already sparked frustration.

Some players are reporting long waits to find matches, while others say their lobbies feel overly competitive. However, it’s currently unclear what is causing those issues, or whether they are connected to the matchmaking system.

The missing playlists have also brought attention back to a statement shared by the official Call of Duty account in July. At the time, the publisher explained how its new matchmaking system differed from Open matchmaking and confirmed that Open playlists would be available in the MW4 beta. However, the option appears to be missing at launch.

What activsion Previously Said About MW4 Matchmaking

In its July 23 statement, the official Call of Duty account said the new system was designed to improve team balancing, offer more match variety, and help keep matches full. It also promised a better experience for parties with players of different skill levels.

“The new system builds on what we’ve learned, with smarter team balancing, wide match variety, improvements that help keep matches full, and a better experience for mixed-level parties. We believe these changes will deliver a better overall experience for all players, with the variety players love from classic Call of Duty.”

We've seen your questions about the difference between Open and the new system. The new system builds on what we've learned, with smarter team balancing, wide match variety, improvements that help keep matches full, and a better experience for mixed-level parties. We believe…

— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) July 23, 2026

However, the next part of the statement is particularly relevant to the current debate: “Open playlists will continue to be available in BO7 and the MW4 Beta.” While that confirmed the option for the beta, it did not promise that Open matchmaking playlists would also be available when Modern Warfare 4 launched. But it also doesn’t rule it out being added eventually.

Will Modern Warfare 4 Get Open Matchmaking Playlists?

MW4 Release Date
Screenshot: Activision

At the time of writing, Infinity Ward and Activision have not issued a statement addressing the missing Open playlists at launch. As a result, it’s unclear whether the option will be added to Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer in a future update.

The July statement said the team would continue listening to player feedback and reviewing match data to refine the system. However, that does not confirm that Open playlists will return.

For now, players hoping to choose Open matchmaking will have to wait for an update from the developers. And judging by the early complaints about queue times and sweaty lobbies, many players are not happy with the current setup.

BioWare Is Shutting Down After 30 Years, and the Next ‘Mass Effect’ Is Canceled

21 October 2026 at 20:10

BioWare is officially closing down after more than three decades of video game development on franchises like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and more.

BioWare Confirms That Development is Ending on The Next Mass Effect

Although BioWare and Electronic Arts had teased a new Mass Effect project back at the 2020 Game Awards, it sounds like the project is not going to have a chance to make it across the finish line.

A surprising post from BioWare arrived this afternoon and confirmed that after 30 years of work, the studio is closing and development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.

“For more than 30 years, BioWare has been more than a studio. It has been a home for storytellers, developers, and the players who brought our worlds to life.Baldur’s Gate. Neverwinter Nights. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Dragon Age. Mass Effect. Anthem.

Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.

There is nothing easy about writing those words. Our focus right now is on our incredibly talented team who put their hearts into these games, and supporting one another through this transition.

What generations of BioWare built together is something to celebrate and remember. These games became so much more because you played them, debated your choices, fell in love with the characters, and made these worlds your own.

From all of us at BioWare, thank you for being the most meaningful part of our story.”

Bloomberg reported that Electronic Arts is laying off roughly 400 employees, closing down BioWare, and making the decision to cancel the next Mass Effect game.

Kotaku has also reported that, “a letter to EA staff also included the news that it would cancel a project related to The Sims franchise code-named Project Lotus, to instead focus on another project code-named Evergreen.”

At this point, it’s unclear what the future holds for the multiple powerful IP that existed under the BioWare umbrella. Hopefully this isn’t the end of Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and the others iconic games that the team developed over the last three decades.

Be sure to check back soon for more news and updates as additional details are revealed.

This is a developing story…

When Does Final Fantasy Resonance Release?

The Final Fantasy Resonance release date is Thursday, October 22, 2026. However, North American console players can start playing on Wednesday, October 21, at 9:00 PM PT / October 22 at 12:00 AM ET.

That means players on the West Coast can jump into Square Enix’s latest RPG tonight, even though its official release date is tomorrow. However, when you can start playing depends on your platform and region.

PS5 and Xbox release schedules point to a midnight regional launch, with North America unlocking at midnight Eastern. However, the Steam version has a separate worldwide unlock scheduled for October 22 at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 players should check their eShop countdown, as their exact unlock times have not been verified here.

Some North American console players can play Final Fantasy Resonance on October 21 because of time zones. The 9:00 PM PT unlock is the same moment as midnight Eastern on October 22, so you do not need a special edition to get that three-hour head start on the calendar.

However, that timing does not apply to Steam. If you are playing on PC, you will need to wait until the separate worldwide launch at 9:00 AM PT on October 22.

The New Zealand trick will not unlock the Steam version of Final Fantasy Resonance sooner. Its worldwide release happens at the same moment regardless of your region.

Pearl Abyss has released a new six-minute overview trailer showing off what players can expect from Charting the Unknown. And if you’ve been looking for a reason to jump back into Crimson Desert, the expansion is adding quite a bit.

From romance and marriage to shipbuilding and underwater exploration, here are the new features revealed for the Crimson Desert DLC:

  • Romance and marriage: Build relationships with characters throughout Pywel, with some connections eventually leading to romance and marriage.
  • A livelier Greymane camp: Characters you’ve grown close to can visit your camp once it has been upgraded enough.
  • Shipbuilding: Unlock shipbuilding after establishing the Greymane camp and completing the related questline.
  • Ship customization: Customize your ship before setting sail.
  • New islands: Discover islands occupied by enemy factions, take on new challenges, and establish strongholds.
  • Pirates and naval combat: Face pirates off the coast of Delesyia and battle enemy ships at sea.
  • Underwater exploration: Craft a diving suit to spend more time exploring below the surface.
  • Sunken ruins and treasure: Discover underwater ruins, treasure, and resources.
  • Underwater mounts: Explore the ocean with mounts including penguins and turtles.
  • Business management: Lease facilities and assign equipment and comrades to help run your operations.
  • Expanded housing: Design your residence with additional layouts and customization options.
  • Claimable castles: Liberate castles, claim them, and decorate their interiors and courtyards.
  • Garden of Trials: Fight bosses in consecutive challenges to earn special rewards.

The expansion also introduces new storylines for Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane, alongside an ocean-focused adventure. However, some of this content requires progress through the main game before you can access it.

How to Unlock Crimson Desert DLC Content

Crimson Desert DLC Release Date

Before the Crimson Desert DLC release date arrives, you may want to make some progress through the main story. While you can dive underwater without meeting any special conditions, several other additions have specific requirements.

Here is what Pearl Abyss says you need to unlock the expansion’s main content:

DLC contentUnlock requirement
Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane’s new storylinesComplete the main story, then access them through the Journal menu.
Ocean storylineComplete “Howling Hill” in the main story.
ShipbuildingEstablish the Greymane camp at Howling Hill, then complete the related questline.
Upgraded housingEstablish the camp and complete Luke’s Request under the “Grounds of the Sunrise” Greymanes Faction quest.
Claimable castlesComplete the main story and relevant quests, then liberate the required strongholds.
Business managementEstablish the camp and complete the faction quest needed to liberate the relevant region.
Garden of TrialsComplete the main questline.

So, if you’re mainly jumping back in for the new character stories or boss challenges, you’ll want to finish the campaign first. Pearl Abyss also says additional details will be shared in the patch notes when Charting the Unknown launches.

Magic: The Gathering Star Trek Adds Two New Mechanics for Commander Players

20 October 2026 at 20:16

Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming Star Trek set brings a handful of new mechanics to the CCG like most sets do, but it will also be introducing two new Commander specific mechanics.

MAgic: The Gathering Star Trek’s Two Commander Specific Mechanics

Just about every Magic: The Gathering set features a handful of new and returning mechanics to shakeup the Limited and Constructed metagames, but not every set goes so far as to introduce new Commander mechanics.

Fans of the 100-card multiplayer format may be excited to learn that Magic: The Gathering – Star Trek is bringing two new mechanics to Commander this November.

Battlefront (Commander Only)
Battlefront is an ability word used to highlight abilities that care about the number of opponents you attacked this turn. This number will be used in different ways, depending on the specific battlefront ability. To attack an opponent means to declare one or more creatures as attacking that opponent. Creatures that enter the battlefield attacking won’t count. For example, if you attack a single opponent with a creature that has myriad, the number of opponents you attacked that turn is one, even though the token copies fanned out and went after each other opponent.

If there are multiple combats in a turn, battlefront abilities will remember who you’ve previously attacked. For example, say you’re in a game with three opponents, and in one combat phase you attack one opponent with Worf. Worf’s ability will trigger, and you’ll exile one card. If there’s another combat phase that turn and in that combat phase you attack the other two opponents, Worf’s ability will trigger again, this time exiling three cards
If instead in that additional combat you attack the same opponent you attacked in the first combat and one new opponent, Worf’s ability would exile two cards. Note that an opponent you attacked twice in a turn counts only once for battlefront abilities.

Seek Out (Commander Only)
Seek out is a new ability word that highlights triggered abilities that trigger whenever you draw your second card each turn. These abilities will trigger even if the permanent with the ability wasn’t under your control as you drew the first card.

So, if you draw Jean-Luc Picard, cast him, then draw a second card that turn, his seek out ability will trigger. Find a way to draw two cards during an opponent’s turn, and the ability will trigger again. Before you know it, your opponents will be left scrambling while you can relax behind a hand full of cards, a board full of colossal threats, and a nice cup of Earl Grey.

Once the full Commander decklists are revealed, it will be very exciting to see how Battlefront and Seek Out are put to use. Beyond the preconstructed decks, it will also be interesting to see how Commander players repurpose cards with these new mechanics into high-powered homebrew decks.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Magic: The Gathering news and updates as the Star Trek set release date approaches.

Magic: The Gathering is available now at local game shops and digitally through Magic Arena. The Magic: The Gathering – Star Trek set releases November 13, 2026.

Fortnite Battle Pass Skins Leaked for November 2026

20 October 2026 at 15:20

Previews of the upcoming Fortnite Battle Pass skins for November 2026 have reportedly leaked early. According to users, marketing billboards in Tokyo and Madrid have revealed our first look at what could be the Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season Battle Pass cosmetics.

Fortnite November Battle Pass Leaks Reveal Five Rumored Skins

We are still weeks away from the end of Chapter 7 Season 4 on October 31, and we might already have our first preview of next season’s Battle Pass. Eagle-eyed fans walking around Madrid and Tokyo have spotted marketing billboards that are seemingly teasing the Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season, which launches on November 1.

Here is the current rumored lineup for the Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season Battle Pass:

Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season Battle Pass (Rumored)

  • Jonesy (Anime/Pirate Remix)
  • Hope (Anime/Pirate Remix)
  • Syd (Anime/Pirate Remix)
  • Evie (Anime/Pirate Remix)
  • Oscar (Anime/Pirate Remix)

More importantly, the billboards appear to confirm that the November Fortnite Battle Pass will feature five remix skins. According to several of the images, it looks like we could specifically be getting anime-style versions of Jonesy, Hope, Syd, and Evie.

Interestingly, the new artwork looks straight out of Persona 5, and even features a page-rip effect similar to those seen in the RPG’s cutscenes. For your convenience, here is a look at the four potential upcoming Fortnite Battle Pass skins. The names below are descriptive labels:

Note: Epic Games has not officially confirmed these as November Battle Pass skins. However, based on the promotional artwork, the cosmetics appear to feature an anime-inspired style.

Is Fortnite’s November Mini Season Anime-Themed?

Rumors about November’s Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season have been interesting, to say the least. In early October, several dataminers claimed that it would be a One Piece season. While that remains unconfirmed, the new marketing billboards suggest that it could feature both anime and pirate themes instead.

According to a rough translation of the ads the Fortnite Chapter 7 Mini Season description reads: “Have you seen the treasure? Join the hunt.” With the latest Battle Pass teasers, the anime side of those rumors is starting to look more likely as well, although the artwork alone doesn’t confirm any specific crossovers.

Even the close-ups of the characters’ eyes look very similar to Atlus’ art style in Persona 5, particularly the animated portraits seen during cutscenes. If Jonesy and Hope are both getting anime-style skins, it could be our clearest hint yet at the look Epic is going for with November’s season.

For now, we will have to wait for Epic Games to reveal the full November Fortnite Battle Pass and explain how these characters fit into the Mini Season. With Chapter 7 Season 4 ending on October 31, there isn’t much longer to find out whether the pirate and anime rumors are connected.

Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft – How to Play An Assassination, Outlaw, or Subtlety Rogue

20 October 2026 at 15:05

Dungeons and Dragons players who want to lean into stealth and high damage attacks have some great options across the three World of Warcraft-inspired Rogue specializations.

Dungeons and Dragons Brings All Three WoW Rogue Specializations To The Tabletop

Dungeons and Dragons players have a ton of exciting classes and subclasses to pick from as they begin their adventures set in Azeroth. The upcoming World of Warcraft gameplay expansion for the TTRPG brings every class and specialization to the tabletop, including all the stealthy and deadly rogue options.

“Rogues in World of Warcraft are pretty similar to a classic Rogue in Dungeons & Dragons: skulking in the shadows, striking with deadly precision, then moving on to the next job. Nobody wants to see them on the enemy team—but then, you likely never will.”

Here is a breakdown of all three Rogue specializations and the corresponding subclasses that D&D players will use to bring them to life:

Assassination – Use poison extensively, often wielding a pair of daggers coated with deadly toxins.

  • The Assassin Rogue will focus on poisons, hard and fast damage, high mobility, and will choose the Assassin subclass.

Outlaw – Use agility and guile to dominate in combat while standing toe-to-toe with your enemies.

  • Outlaw Rogues will select the updated Swashbuckler subclass. Swashbucklers dance and flit across the battlefield, goading and awing (and infuriating) their opponents with equal ease.

Subtlety – Draw on the supernatural magic of the shadows to cloak yourself in darkness and form deadly blades.

  • The Subtlety Rogue will prioritize the stealth ambush and will select the Soulknife subclass.

Of all the World of Warcraft classes, the Rogue is the one that most nearly maps to an existing Dungeons and Dragons class and existing subclasses. The only notable changes are the updates to the Swashbuckler subclass that will be used to reflect the Outlaw specialization.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Dungeons and Dragons news and updates as the World of Warcraft gameplay expansion release date approaches.

Dungeons and Dragons is available now at local game shops and digitally through D&D Beyond, Roll20, and other similar online services. The Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft gameplay expansion releases on November 17, 2026.

Final Fantasy Resonance Review: A Stunning Return to Square Enix’s JRPG Roots

20 October 2026 at 15:00

When Square Enix announced earlier this year that it was making its first HD-2D Final Fantasy game, I was beyond excited. While I’m a massive fan of the 3D era of the series, as a child of the ’90s, I’ve been yearning for the franchise to return to its roots. Thankfully, I can say that Final Fantasy Resonance is not only one of the best JRPGs I’ve played in years, but it fully captures the magic of the early Square Enix games that many have been nostalgic for.

Final Fantasy Resonance Goes Beyond Its Mobile origins

Final Fantasy Resonance HD-2D
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

One of my biggest questions going into Final Fantasy Resonance was how it would separate itself from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. For those not in the know, Resonance is partly a reimagining of the 2015 mobile gacha game. However, my worries immediately melted away within the opening minutes of the game.

For starters, the new HD-2D graphics overhaul is a massive one. While Resonance largely follows Brave Exvius’ story, every scene has been completely re-created with new cinematic storytelling. So much so that the two games barely resemble each other visually or even narratively. As far as the graphics themselves go, I would actually go as far as to say this is Square Enix’s best-looking pixel game to date.

From the grand backdrops of massive cityscapes to dingy dungeons you explore throughout the region, Resonance is filled to the brim with gorgeously detailed levels that find a perfect balance between 3D and 2D retro graphics. It doesn’t just stop there, though. Square Enix has even crafted these new 3D-rendered, pixelated cutscenes that almost feel like early PlayStation-era CGI.

Final Fantasy Resonance Review Graphics
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

Suffice to say, if you missed the old-school Final Fantasy series, FF Resonance not only gives you that in spades, but it also presents it through a modern HD lens that is absolutely stunning.

Final Fantasy Resonance Recaptures the Magic of ’90s Turn-Based Combat

Final Fantasy Resonance Review Combat
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

More importantly, though, Final Fantasy Resonance plays like a classic Square Enix JRPG from the ’90s with its return to turn-based combat. I know for many fans, this is specifically what they’ve been wanting from the franchise for over a decade now. And oh man, was it completely worth the wait.

In Resonance, you control a team of four party members on the battlefield at any given time. However, your team can actually expand to eight units, as each character can equip a Vision or Esper to join them in battle. Like classic Final Fantasy games, each encounter determines the attack order based on the player characters’ and enemies’ stats.

What adds a new twist is the action bar at the top that shows the attack order in real time. Because of this, players can strategically use elemental attacks to stagger enemies and prevent them from even having a turn. In Final Fantasy Resonance, the core gameplay loop centers around you filling up an enemy’s stagger meter. Staggering is based on enemy weaknesses, which you can exploit with elemental attacks.

Final Fantasy Resonance Combat
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

On paper, this is all a pretty standard classic JRPG formula. However, Square Enix has gone to great lengths to really make the battles feel epic with the new Vision mechanic. Vision attacks trigger a powerful spell that is accompanied by a 3D-pixel cutscene that is mind-blowing every time you see it. Then there are Limit Burst attacks, which feature full HD-2D pixel cutscenes that are just as breathtaking.

A Familiar Story That Keeps You Hooked

Final Fantasy Resonance Story
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

There are times when you can feel the echoes of Final Fantasy Resonance’s mobile roots. Specifically, the main story, which is an adaptation of the first story arc in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. However, I actually love this aspect of the game.

If you’ve played a gacha title like Genshin Impact, you know the drill. You discover a new region, spend an entire chapter resolving the story, and then move on to the next region. But I feel like this formula works really well in Resonance, as it almost has a TV-series quality to it.

For example, when you reach the end of each chapter, you are always left on a cliffhanger or a tease for the upcoming region. Which, yeah, makes sense for live-service mobile games that release new content in patch updates. But in Resonance, I found that it kept the story engaging throughout each section, and every arc had me hooked from beginning to end.

Visions Are Final Fantasy Resonance’s Best Feature

Final Fantasy Resonance Vision Cutscene
Screenshot: Square Enix

Final Fantasy Resonance’s Vision mechanic is its best feature. Throughout the game’s map are Sanctum of Lights locations, which you can enter to recruit heroes from previous Final Fantasy games. From Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife to Final Fantasy X’s Tidus, you can literally add some of the franchise’s biggest characters to your party.

Although Visions are technically summons of previous heroes, they are equipped to each party member through an equipment slot. Interestingly, though, each Vision has its own class. For example, Lightning and Clive Rosfield are both Breakers, which means they are good for staggering enemy defenses.

There are around 26 Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance you can collect. They not only look flashy and are a nostalgia lover’s dream, but they add a lot of strategy to the game. When you equip a Vision, you actually add their powers and moves to the character they are attached to. So if, let’s say, Rain doesn’t have any ice attacks, you can equip a certain Vision to expand his arsenal of moves.

A Massive World With Plenty to Explore

FF Resonance Map
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

Thankfully, I can also say that Final Fantasy Resonance is a massive game. It took me around 45 hours just to beat the main story campaign. And I was missing a lot of side content. Square Enix has packed this game with a lot of interesting side quests that really flesh out the game’s lore and side characters.

For example, there is one quest that has you hunting down specific monster spawns across the entire map, which then lets you unlock new parts for a Chocobo mech that one character brings into battle. No, it’s seriously as awesome as it sounds.

Final Fantasy Resonance Mech Chocobo
Screenshot: Brent Koepp

Although the game is HD-2D, Final Fantasy Resonance has a sprawling map that can be explored on foot or by summoning your trusty Chocobo mount with the press of a button. However, without getting into spoilers, the JRPG opens up even further as you progress, once you unlock an airship that lets you fly around the entire overworld.

Final Fantasy Resonance Review Verdict

Final Fantasy Resonance is not only a return to Square Enix’s ’90s roots, it’s a beautiful reimagining of what a classic Final Fantasy game would look like in the modern age. This is the Final Fantasy project many fans have been desperately wanting for decades.

Verdict: Best In Its Class (10/10)

Final Fantasy Resonance Review Score
Screenshot: Square Enix

Pros

  • Final Fantasy Resonance brings the series back to turn-based combat, and it’s instantly addicting.
  • Square Enix has pushed the HD-2D genre to the next level with incredible 3D CGI cutscenes, vision attacks, and pixel animated battle sequences that are jaw dropping.
  • A massive map that features side quests, hidden items, and unlocks.
  • Vison’s are an incredible feature that will have you geeking out over recruiting your favorite Final Fantasy hero.

Cons

  • If you played Brave Exvius, some of the story beats might be too familiar. However, the levels of depth Square Enix has gone to reimagine the title, makes it stand out its own game.
  • Enemy encounters that trigger when walking around the overworld map can sometimes get fatiguing. Especially if you are higher level and don’t need the XP, but then fail to escape the battle.

Final Fantasy Resonance releases on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 24, 2026. A code was provided by Square Enix for the sake of review. Reviewed on PlayStation 5 Pro.

ARC Raiders Concludes PvE Test Run and Confirms Next Steps

20 October 2026 at 14:29

ARC Raiders players have had a chance to experience a PvE version of the game this month, but the testing window has come to a close and the extraction shooter is back to its original PvP tension for now.

ARC Raiders Team Will aNnounce Results of PvE Test in November

Arc Raiders Riven Tides Feedback
Screenshot: Embark Studios

ARC Raiders launched nearly a year ago in late October 2025 and quickly became one of the biggest games of the year. The unique worldbuilding, emergent gameplay moments, and tension of the extraction shooter formula scratched an itch for many gamers.

That said, there are still plenty of players who love the world of ARC Raiders, but aren’t a fan of the constant threat of PvP violence. Embark Studios has been listening to that feedback carefully and recently tested out a PvE matchmaking toggle in the game.

More than 30 million rounds of PvE were played over the testing period, which gives the ARC Raiders team a huge amount of information to analyze. Due to the volume of data, the team is going to need a short period of time to dive into the numbers and draw out the insights.

“On a surface reading, we know that the test has been polarizing. As always, our decision on how to proceed will prioritize the overall health and enjoyability of the game… We don’t yet know what the outcome of the data analysis will be, but we expect to be able to follow up with further information in November.”

As ARC Raiders attempts to ensure that its dedicated fanbase is engaged enough to stick around and continue giving the game their attention, the team needs to strike a balance that will keep the highest percentage of fans and active players happy. It should be very interesting to find out what that looks like when they follow up with an announcement next month.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more ARC Raiders news and updates as the November announcement approaches.

ARC Raiders is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Reportedly Leaked

20 October 2026 at 14:17

Star Wars Battlefront 3 is reportedly in development, according to a new report. However, if accurate, there are several studios such as Bungie and Respawn that are rumored to be involved with the multiplayer’s revival.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Reportedly in Development at DICE and Respawn

This latest rumor first kicked off when a report surfaced online claiming that Bungie and DICE were potentially the developers for Star Wars Battlefront 3. However, things got interesting quickly when Joe Brammer, CEO of WARDOGS developer Bulkhead, confirmed that he had heard that the leaked multiplayer game is in fact real.

Responding to a post on X about the rumor, Brammer wrote: “DICE and from what I’ve heard Respawn are working on Battlefront 3. Not sure what that means for Battlefield.” Interestingly, Brammer did not mention Bungie in his response, leaving its potential involvement unclear.

— Joe Brammer (@Brammflakes) October 19, 2026

Now, it should be pointed out that Brammer qualified his claim with “from what I’ve heard.” Although his position as Bulkhead’s CEO adds some weight to his comments, this still isn’t official confirmation. That said, we should treat this latest rumor with a major grain of salt until an official announcement is made. Even if it is real, it’s unclear how far along the project might be.

Brammer’s comments follow an earlier rumor discussed by Jeff Grubb on Game Mess Mornings. Grubb shared claims from Electronic Gaming Monthly’s Quarterman rumor column suggesting that Lucasfilm was looking for a development partner for a new Star Wars Battlefront game, with DICE and Bungie named as potential candidates.

As far as how Bungie factors into this, its potential role remains unclear. With Brammer not mentioning the Destiny 2 studio at all, we don’t know whether it is involved or was simply being considered.

Then again, Brammer also pointed out that this was something he had heard. All this to say, there is a lot of smoke around this Star Wars Battlefront 3 development rumor. However, whether it leads to a new game—and how far away that project might be—is anyone’s guess.

While it might be too soon to celebrate, it does sound like an exciting update for fans of the Star Wars multiplayer series. Given the recent string of incredible Star Wars games, including Galactic Racer and Zero Company, who knows? Maybe Respawn and DICE can breathe some new life into the Battlefront series next.

Magic: The Gathering collectors have had a lot of exciting products to consider lately, including the Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle. This collection is part of the new Magic initiative to give every new set the Secret Lair treatment.

Starting with Reality Fracture, every Magic Multiverse set will feature a Secret Lair Bundle that combines the set’s most popular and powerful new cards with a bit of Secret Lair flair. That means there will be special alternate art that provides a unique touch different from what players would find in Play Boosters.

Unfortunately, this first Secret Lair Bundle has been hit with some familiar issues. Due to production and shipping issues, the Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle is delayed globally and may arrive shortly after the October 23 release date. Exact delay timing will vary locally.

Secret Lair Bundles purchased as part of Secret Lair Chaos Vault bundles will follow typical Secret Lair fulfillment based on drop availability and production timing.

The Secret Lair Bundle was announced alongside the Strange School and Duality Distorted products, but the official announcement did not mention any issues with the production or shipping of those products at this time.

Magic: The Gathering and Wizards of the Coast will make an announcement if there are additional changes to Secret Lair Bundle availability.

A few Magic: The Gathering products have had delays recently due to similar shipping and production issues, so this may feel a bit familiar to players who follow the game’s releases closely. Hopefully these issues can be resolved quickly and collectors can get their hands on the new Secret Lair Bundle before long.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Magic: The Gathering news and updates.

Magic: The Gathering is available now at local game shops and digitally through Magic Arena.
